Elementary School Poster Contest
The Americanism Elementary School Poster Contest is for students in the 3rd, 4th or 5th grades, depending on which year the American Revolution is taught in their educational system - including ecumenical and home schooled students.
The contest is also open to members of the Cub Scouts and Brownies, C.A.R. (Children of the American Revolution) and Junior Members of the Sons of the American Revolution who are in the same grades but whose school system may not be participating in the contest. In the case where the local school system, or its equivalent, is participating, the young person must enter the contest through the school and not as a separate entry.
Contest Description
Conducted at the Chapter, State Society and National Society levels, the student submits an original poster based on an announced topic related to the Revolutionary War or the founding of our nation.
Poster Themes
Posters are judged on the following criteria:
Generally, chapter members will travel to local schools to select the winning poster(s) from a school. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners can be chosen and a certificate would later be presented to the students at the school. The 1st place school poster will compete at the Chapter level. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place students at the chapter level each receive a certificate and a monetary award, to be later presented to the students at their respective schools.
The overall Chapter winning poster is taken to the State Society’s annual convention, held in February or March of each year. Once the State Society has selected a winner, that poster will compete at the National Society level. Only one entry from each State Society is accepted for the National contest.
The State Society winners will be displayed during the National Contest. The Americanism Committee will announce 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners during the Youth Awards Luncheon at the National Congress.
Contest Awards
Cash awards are presented at Chapter, State, and National levels. For example, the 1st place state winner is awarded $100 (amount may vary).
